Cannapix - Photovoice

The Cannapix - Photovoice project explored the perspectives and experiences of LGBTQ+ youth at the intersection of mental health challenges and cannabis use. Forty-six LGBTQ+ youths, aged 15 to 24 and living in Quebec, took photos to represent their experiences with cannabis, mental health, and their sexual and gender identities. These photos were discussed during interviews, which provided insights into several key elements: the positive and negative impacts of cannabis use on mental health, the barriers to accessing mental health resources, and the marginalization of LGBTQ+ youth in healthcare settings.

The photos produced by the participants aimed to deconstruct the stigmas surrounding mental health and cannabis use, while also exploring ways to improve and adapt services for LGBTQ+ youth. These photos encourage a re-examination of the norms shaping discussions around cannabis and foster non-judgmental conversations about mental health and cannabis use among LGBTQ+ youth.

We invite you to explore these perspectives through the eyes (and lens) of these young LGBTQ+ individuals. A big thank you to the 46 artist-participants for their invaluable contributions !
