The Jeunes Chercheur.e.s queers program is a capacity-building and knowledge transfer program that is both participatory and community-based. It is aimed at young people (aged 18-29) from the 2S/LGBTQIA+ community who are interested in research.
The program offers youth a unique opportunity to be involved in each step of a research project, allowing them to gain new research skills, to learn about 2S/LGBTQIA+ issues and to connect with other young people with similar interests. Program participants meet weekly to get hand-on experience with research and to work alongside experts on health inequities and 2S/LGBTQIA+ health.
The Jeunes Chercheur.e.s meet weekly to co-construct knowledge, to learn and to work on research projects with the help of experts on health inequalities and 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities.
The Jeunes Chercheur.e.s queers program is an opportunity to promote research on 2S/LGBTQIA+ people, and to disseminate various participatory research methods. To participate in the program, no research experience is required.
In other words, the program Jeunes Chercheur.e.s queers offers a mix of social and academic activities. These include social activities to exchange with other 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth, learning activities about participatory research with our communities, as well academic activities such as local or national conferences, panels and presentations.
In past projects, our young researchers have designed the “I stand out!” survey, a survey on the mental health and resilience of 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth in Canada. This year, the group collaborated on a cellphilm research project to highlight the resilience of 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth.
In September 2023, the Jeunes Chercheur.e.s queers will be working on a new cellphilm study looking at the experiences of harm reduction among 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth who use cannabis.

"J'prends ma place! - Resilience" is a cellphilm project of the Qollab laboratory, located at the Université de Montréal's School of Public Health. The project is participatory, community-based research that highlights the strengths, joys and resilience of LGBTQ+ youth in Quebec. "J'prends ma place! - Resilience" was conducted in collaboration with Jeunes Chercheur.es Queers. Here we present 7 cellphilms made by research participants. Enjoy!
