It demonstrates how photography (such as <em>photovoice<\/em> or photo-elicitation) is used to document the realities of people who use substances, promote their <em>empowerment<\/em> , and support advocacy and social transformation.<\/p>\n\n<p>The analysis covers <strong>60 scientific articles<\/strong> identified across several databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Google Scholar). The study examined researchers' objectives, participant-reported benefits, as well as the methodological, ethical, and practical challenges specific to these visual and participatory methods.<\/p>\n\n<p>Key findings show that:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>An accessible and humanizing means of expression:<\/strong> Photography offers an alternative to traditional verbal approaches, allowing participants to convey complex, embodied, or stigmatized lived experiences while deconstructing dominant narratives around substance use.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Therapeutic and community impact:<\/strong> The process fosters critical reflection, self-esteem, a sense of belonging, and the creation of safe, non-judgmental spaces for marginalized individuals.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Ethical and methodological tensions:<\/strong> Using photography in a substance use context can raise major issues surrounding informed consent, confidentiality, physical and psychosocial safety, and the risk of voyeurism or image decontextualization.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Underutilization of knowledge mobilization:<\/strong> Although these visual methods carry strong potential for raising awareness, very few studies outlined concrete strategies for sharing these findings with policymakers and the general public.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-95c5a45 elementor-align-center elementor-widget elementor-widget-button\" data-id=\"95c5a45\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"button.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-button-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-button elementor-button-link elementor-size-sm\" href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/16094069261466935\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-button-content-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-button-text\">To read the full article, click here.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9quipe Qollab signe une publication intitul\u00e9e \u00ab Photographic arts-based methods in substance use research: A scoping review \u00bb, publi\u00e9e dans la revue International Journal of Qualitative Methods.
